I followed Hamilton into his office and took a seat in front of his desk. I tried to open my briefcase so that I could take out a pen and paper so I could take notes.
I looked up and saw him staring at me impatiently.
“Sorry, I can’t seem to remember the code.”
“The code?”
“For the padlock” I nodded down to my briefcase. “It’s new you see. Lucy got it for me on her Macys charge card as a first day at work gift.” Along with the suit, but I didn’t tell him that.
“Hmm, and who is Lucy?” He lifted one eyebrow at me. I wondered how he did it but I knew now was not the time to ask.
“My roommate and best friend. We went to Columbia together. Uhm, many years ago of course.” I smiled up at him and tried to look older. Shoots, I was going to blow it before I even made it to lunch.

Hamilton looked over at his new assistant as she fumbled with her cheap briefcase. There was no way this girl was over 25, no way she had years of experience and no way she could do this job. As the CEO of the company, he needed someone who could keep up with him, be his second eyes and ears and this girl didn’t have it. He wasn’t sure why he hadn’t kicked her out as soon as she introduced herself. He didn’t know what her game was but he was interested in finding out.
She was pretty, unassumingly so. There was something about the way that she stared at him that made his loins ache. He should send her away, he was 35 and one of the richest men in New York, and he certainly didn’t need a dalliance with some coed.
He listened as she bumbled on about Twitter and hash tags, obviously trying to distract him from the fact that she couldn’t open the briefcase. He had no clue what she was talking about or why.
“Jenny, why don’t you leave the briefcase for later and let’s chat about your duties okay?”
“Oh certainly Hamilton.” She looked at him sweetly, completely unaware of the irritation in his voice. She adjusted her skirt and he was drawn to her long legs. She then attempted to straighten her shirt; but she missed the gaping hole near her br**sts. He had noticed that that happened a lot to women with larger boobs, shirts never really closed properly. He pictured her body for a second. She wasn’t skinny, but he didn’t like them skinny. She had a body that was made to be loved.
He was brought out of his reverie by her repeating his name.
“Sorry, what Jenny.”
“Oh, no problem Hamilton. I was just wondering if you could tell me when we get paid.” She smiled.
“Paid?” She had barely been in the door 5 minutes and she was wondering about getting paid?
“Yes, I just wanted to make sure I got paid before my rent was due. I’m sure you know how it is.” She grinned at him. He nearly laughed. He had never had to worry about money in his 35 years. Had this girl done no research?
“Not really.”
“Oh, it must be nice being an executive?”
“Yes. It is.” Hamilton studied the young girl in front of him curiously. She had no clue who he was. He would bet money on it. That meant that while she had lied about being hired for this position, she hadn’t lied because she was trying to get to him. She didn’t know who he was and she hadn’t lied because she wanted to seduce him because frankly asides from the gap in her shirt, the outfit was not very sexy.
“So Jenny. Tell me why you applied to be my personal assistant?” He nearly laughed at the obvious gulp she took. This was going to be fun. He had been around so many jaded actors and executives, that he had forgotten what it was like to be around someone who wore their emotions on their sleeve. He decided that he wanted to get to know Jenny better, a lot better.
Chapter 2
Oh boy I was in trouble. Personal assistant? I had somehow come to the wrong persons office but wasn’t sure how to get out of it. How was I going to tell him I was in the wrong office without telling him I was actually the new direct of social media. For some reason I didn’t think my inane Twitter knowledge impressed him.
“Well, ah.” I mumbled trying to think furiously. “Well, you see.”
“Jenny, what exactly are you doing in my office today?”
“Huh?” I looked at him in shock, surprised to hear him get to the point so quickly.
“I think we both know you are not my new personal assistant. Are you meant to be down in the secretary pool?”
“No.” Secretary. I didn’t go to Columbia for 4 years to be a secretary.
“Are you meant to be here at all?” He looks at me sternly.
“Yes.” I whisper.
“As what?” He leans across the desk and looks at me intently. I swallow hard. I can feel the warmness of his body radiating towards mine.
“Social media director” I mumble.
“Director?” Hamilton bursts out laughing. “You got hired as a director?”
“Yes, I did. I am very qualified actually.” I want to stick my tongue out at him but I don’t think that it will help my cause.
“You have 10 years experience do you? How old are you? 18?”
“I am 23 actually. And I am a Columbia University grad and I have tons of experience with social media.”
“You like Facebooking huh?”
“Yes, I mean no, I mean I have a lot of experience utilizing it for business purposes.”
“Ten years of experience?” His raises his eyebrows again. Why does he do that and does he know how sexy he looks?
“Okay, well not exactly.” I ponder for a moment. “I’m going to tell you something but you have to promise not to tell anyone.” It’s a risk telling him my secret but he hasn’t kicked me out or called security as yet. It may be that he will keep my confidence and just point me in the right direction. I mean what did he have to lose? Whereas I had everything to lose. This could be my only chance.
“Go on.”
“So, I don’t really have 10 years experience. My friends and I were playing around one night and I was drunk, well you don’t need to know all that. But I really need this job. Like really. My best friend Anna spent all her money on our last 2 months rent and she doesn’t have a job either and well, if I don’t get paid within 3 weeks I will lose my apartment. And I’ll have to go back to Florida.”
“Well, we certainly don’t want you to go back to Florida do we?” He smiles at me. Phew.
“No, not at all. So if you could just keep quiet about this. At least for a month, I would really appreciate it.”
