Up In Flames Page 15
Author: Nicole Williams

I barely knew him.

“Yes,” I whispered.

“Are you scared?” He guided me over to where he’d laid out his shirt.

Terrified. And yet not.

“No.”

Cole’s eyes drifted to the ground, then back to me. They were expectant. “Are you sure?”

I’d never been so unsure in my life. I’d never been so sure at the same time.

“Yes,” I answered.

His eyes never left mine as he guided me down, adjusting my back so his shirt was between my skin and the earth. By that point, my heartbeat could have registered on the Richter Scale. My breathing was treading the line between hyperventilation and asphyxiation.

When Cole lowered himself over me, I wasn’t sure what his intentions were, but I knew mine. I wanted him. All of him. On me, around me, and inside of me. His mouth dropped to my neck, but he held his body above mine. I wanted to feel it crushing against mine, but the space between us did have its advantages.

My fingers had his zipper down before his sharp inhale vibrated over my neck.

Cole’s hand stopped mine from continuing right before he rolled onto his side.

I was opening my mouth to protest when his dropped to my ear. “I’m not going to have sex with you tonight, Elle. God knows I want to so bad I’m about to lose it, but I won’t take you until you’re mine. All mine. I won’t share you with another. I don’t want to wonder if when I’m moving inside you at night, he was inside you that morning. I won’t share you in that way.”

If he stopped saying those kinds of things to me that left me all breathless, I could tell him he didn’t have to worry about that. My virginity was his. All he had to do was ask for it. Or take it.

Right now, I didn’t really care.

“Understood?” His breath was hot in my ear.

I was lucky to manage a nod.

Propping up on his elbow, Cole’s hand left my mouth. It slid down my neck, took a detour at my chest, and finished the journey down my stomach. It stopped just above the hem of my skirt.

“Do you touch yourself?” Cole’s finger dipped just under my hem while every nerve in my body went on high alert.

When I didn’t answer, his fingers went lower until they teased the top of my panties. “Well?” His voice was low, gravelly. “Do you?”

As his fingers started to move away, my answer leapt out of me.

“Yes,” I admitted, too far gone to even be embarrassed.

“Yes, what?” As a reward, or punishment, who knows, Cole’s fingers dropped lower again.

“Yes,” I agreed quickly. “I touch myself.” My h*ps rocked against his hand, completely of their own accord. His response was a lazy smile and yet another lowering of his fingers.

“Has . . .” he stumbled for the next word, “does he touch you there?” His voice took on a hard, dark edge that would have terrified me if his body wasn’t making mine feel things I wasn’t familiar with.

Inhaling, I rocked my h*ps against his hand again. He was so darn close. From this torture, all it would take was the lightest graze and I’d be sent over the edge.

“No,” I breathed. “He doesn’t touch me there. Ever,” I emphasized, hoping he’d take a clue and touch me already. This was a slow form of torture that my body couldn’t take anymore.

Cole froze, his fingers along with him. “Never?” The low notes were gone, replaced by surprise.

I rolled my eyes, half in frustration and half in exasperation. “No, never,” I said, not hiding my irritation. “Kind of hard to do when his hands follow some sort of Northern hemisphere rule.”

Cole’s body stayed frozen, but now it tensed. “Wait. Are you saying you’re a . . .” He fumbled for words again. “You can’t be a . . .”

“Virgin?” I said loudly, easing his suffering. “Yeah, I am. Don’t rub it in, okay?”

Cole’s eyes widened as they stared at me with disbelief. Then, before I could regret admitting it, he popped up, gave his body a full-on shake, and charged into the dark water. Cole dove into the water and was submerged for so long I was about to get up and go after him when his head bobbed above the surface. Just like that, he trudged out of the water, his entire body and his shorts dripping wet.

That didn’t do anything to ease the throb coming from below my navel.

“What the heck was that about?” I asked as he dropped beside me again. I knew how cold that water was, I’d just had my toes in it, but when I skimmed my fingers down Cole’s chest, he felt anything but cool to the touch.

“Because if I didn’t calm my shit down,” he said, molding his hand over my cheek. Droplets of water leaked from his face onto mine. “You wouldn’t be a virgin in the morning.”

I inhaled sharply. “That doesn’t sound so bad to me,” I said, wondering what the water clinging to his skin would taste like.

“Not to me either,” he said. “But I already told you, Elle. I won’t share you in that way. I don’t care if you and him aren’t doing it, I won’t let myself be with you that way until you’re done with him.”

It felt like something of an ultimatum. You want sex, you have to break up with him. The way Cole’s body felt against mine right now made the choice unnervingly easy. It was a good thing I’d left my phone in the Jeep.

“Understood?” His voice was silk on my skin when he moved his mouth down my neck. I tried to collect my breath. Or my wits. “Understood,” I breathed back.

His mouth sucked at the skin above my collar bone. I arched closer to him, wondering why I couldn’t seem to get close enough.

“But that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy each other in other ways.” His words were muffled against my skin, but I heard him with crystal clear precision.

I didn’t really know what he was talking about, but I agreed with a nod.

“There’s the girl I love,” he replied as his hand trailed down my side. It didn’t stop trailing until it skimmed under my skirt.

I guess I did know what he was talking about.

His hand left my thigh, and when I thought a sigh of frustration would come, I gasped instead. At the same time Cole’s fingers shoved my panties aside, his thumb dropped to a certain spot that had me feeling things I’d never been able to make myself feel when touching the same spot.

Applying just the right amount of pressure, Cole’s thumb circled and stroked over me until I was quite certain I was about to become the female equivalent to a two-pump-chump.

My arms wound around his neck and my fingers fisted in his long hair. All I could do was hold on while he touched me like he knew what my body craved better than I did.

As soon as I’d feel my body quickening, Cole backed off, slowing his strokes until I almost breathed normally again.

“What do you want?” Cole’s voice was throaty and deep. That, combined with the pace of his thumb, was getting me to a point I wasn’t going to be able to back away from. No matter what he did. Or didn’t do.

“This,” I said, pressing my h*ps into his hand.

He rewarded my answer with an increase in speed. “And?”

“Right now,” I added, because I couldn’t wait. If I had to, I was convinced I would have a heart attack.

This answer he punished by slowing his thumb.

I moaned in pain and pleasure.

“What do you want?” he said possessively just outside my ear.

I caught what he was getting at.

“You,” I answered. “I want you.”

My answer wasn’t out before his mouth covered mine. His mouth kept pace with his hand and when I finally came, my screams were drowned in his mouth. Cole held me together as I fell apart and, even in my wrecked state of mind, the irony wasn’t lost on me.

He held me tight long after the last trembles rolled from my body. His mouth didn’t leave mine, gently tasting my lips with the tip of his tongue. My breath took a while to return to a somewhat normal rate, but I tried to time it to his. When his chest lifted, so did mine. When his fell, mine fell too. I’d never felt so in sync with another person. I’d never felt like I just opened myself up in the most vulnerable, intimate way, and the fact I’d known Cole not even two weeks didn’t matter.

All that mattered was the way he held me and that his eyes told me how much he wanted me. I’m sure mine told the same story. Right now, it was less about wanting him to be mine. It was about me wanting to be his. The subtle nuance shouldn’t change the thought as much as it did.

It wasn’t about wanting to possess, it was about wanting to be claimed. I wanted Cole Carson to have a claim to me and that couldn’t ever be while Logan held that distinction. I couldn’t have them both just as much as they couldn’t both have me. I had to choose, and right then, the choice was easy.

“So?” Cole looked down at me, his face an entire gauntlet of emotions. Excitement, hunger, longing, but what was most evident was the smugness in his smile.

“So?” I repeated, rolling my eyes. “Like you’re not absolutely gloating in what you did to me. You don’t need a description from me to know that you . . .” I fumbled for the right word. I really needed to get over my prude talk complex and just spit those dirty words out. Cole wasn’t the type who would mind. In fact, it would probably turn him on.

“That I rocked your world,” he inserted, his smirk jacking up a couple of notches. “That I made you cry out so loudly I’m worried you might have woken half the town?”

I made a face, like I was considering these suggestions. Then I pushed my prude off to the side and wrapped one leg around his and tugged on it until he was on top of me. I adjusted my position below him until I could feel him hard between my legs. His body rocked gently against mine and I cried out again. I was going to fall apart all over again if he kept that up.

“I was thinking more along the lines that you made me come so hard I wished you could have been inside me to feel it.”

I wasn’t sure whose face looked more shocked: Cole’s or mine. I guess when you removed the prude filter from Elle Montgomery, she had one dirty mind and mouth. Hitching my other leg around Cole, I rocked against him again. This time I slid my warmth down his entire length.

His body shook before his shoulders went rigid. “Fuck,” he breathed, trying to break loose from my killer arm and leg holds.

“Where do you think you’re going?” I said, smiling up at him. His face was as tortured as I knew mine had been minutes ago. Knowing I could make Cole feel the kinds of things he made me feel made me feel powerful in a way I’d never known.

“I need to jump in that water and calm my shit down again,” he said, squeezing his eyes together when I slid down him again. “Or else I’m going to tear those panties off and do you right here, right now.”

I swallowed the heat coming up my throat from my stomach. “Why jump into that frigid water again when I’m right here?” I bucked my h*ps hard against his. His grimace deepened, like this was actually causing him physical pain. “Come on in,” I breathed. “The water’s great.”
