Sawyer (Alluring Indulgence #7) Page 69
Author: Nicole Edwards

Things were going smoothly at Walker Demo this go-round, but Sawyer figured that was because Jaxson was in charge. Unlike the last time, when Jaxson had been on vacation, the guy had been all for stepping in and taking over, even briefly. From what Sawyer could tell, all jobs were being taken care of so when he finished up there, he had snuck over to the resort where he had spent the last couple of hours.

He had several conference calls scheduled that he couldn’t avoid, so he’d had to put off his visit to see Kennedy until the afternoon, something he found himself looking forward to all damn day. By the time he snuck out of AI, he couldn’t have wiped the smile off his face if he had wanted to.

And he definitely did not want to. For half the day, the memories of the weekend they’d spent practically all of together had plagued him. In the best possible way, however, the timing couldn’t have been worse. It wasn’t exactly a good thing that he’d been walking around with a constant hard-on, but somehow he had managed.

Now, as he was pulling into Kennedy’s office parking lot, he was hoping to find a few minutes to get her alone. He had missed her last night. After spending Saturday night in her bed, and then all day Sunday hanging out, he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her.

Her sweet mouth, her wicked tongue, her hot pussy. Yeah, needless to say, he was one giant walking hormone and the only cure he could think of was her.

When he stepped inside, he found Jessie sitting at the counter, talking on the phone. He waited, confused.

She hung up the phone a minute later and smiled up at him.

“Hey. What’re you doin’ here?” she asked, glancing down at the computer screen. “I don’t see that Buster has an appointment.”

“I’m not here for Buster,” Sawyer said simply and it only took a second for his words to register on Jessie’s face.

“Well, she’s in with . . . er . . . someone, but she should be done in a few minutes. Have a seat. Stay awhile.”

Sawyer chose to lean against the counter while Buster went in search of a treat, only to find Scrap napping on the other side. He watched as Jessie greeted his dog, slipping him a small bone and patting his head before turning her attention back to him.

“So, what’s goin’ on? I heard you were handlin’ Walker Demo while Jared’s out of town.”

“Technically Jaxson is, though I’m helpin’ out if he needs me. But I think the bigger question is what’s goin’ on with you?” Sawyer nodded his head toward the desk. “I didn’t know you worked here.”

“As of this mornin’,” Jessie clarified, her eyes bright. “I brought Scrap in for his shots and turns out Kennedy needs a receptionist. I volunteered, the rest is history.”

“Does that mean Kylie’s still taking time off?”

“No,” Jessie informed him. “She’s back to work, but only part-time. The only reno she’s taking on is Cheyenne’s. That leaves very little for me to do.”

“Travis finally convinced Kylie to take things slow?” Sawyer knew that his brother had been harping on Kylie to close things down since the day Kate was born. Except for the first couple of weeks when Kylie had been recovering, she hadn’t taken his advice. The woman was as stubborn as they came, even Sawyer knew that much. Then again, it took a mighty stubborn woman to keep two men in line, especially two men like Travis and Gage.

“I don’t think it was so much Travis who convinced her as it was Kate. She’s in love with her daughter and I don’t know if we’ll ever see her again unless we go to her.”

Sawyer grinned. Yeah, he knew exactly what Jessie was referring to. Last night, after he had reluctantly left Kennedy’s, he had stopped by his brother’s house only to find all three of them cooing over their daughter. She was a little more than a month old, but it didn’t seem like the newness had worn off just yet. It had been sweet. Until it wasn’t.

Not that Sawyer would’ve told them that. He hadn’t stayed long because they had mentioned that the entire family had been parading through their house for most of the day as they did most weekends. From what he could tell, Sunday dinners weren’t nearly enough time for everyone, especially his mother, to get their fill of the newest Walker. So he’d chatted with Gage for a few minutes out front and then headed home after picking Buster up from Brendon’s.

He’d received an earful from Brendon at that point. Apparently his younger brother hadn’t signed on to be a dog sitter, and he’d grumbled for a good ten minutes, although he admitted that Scrap and Buster had spent the majority of the day snooping around the yard. Sawyer chalked it up to Brendon just being grumpy.
