An Heir for the Billionaire Page 20

"No, I suppose not. It was more like leering really."

He groaned. "I don't leer."

Smiling she stretched out on her side, facing him, hugging the pillow and setting her chin upon it.

"Here." Damon passed her a glass. She took a tentative sip. The sweet liquid was just what she needed and took a deeper drink.

She watched Damon drink close to half of the glass in one swallow. She was no doctor, but she really didn't think he should be drinking especially since he was starting chemo treatments the following week, but she didn't say something. He was a big boy, it was his decision, but it still made her uneasy. She fought to keep a frown from showing in her expression. She imagined he needed it now anyhow, he was going through a lot, so who was she to tell him what to do or nag if she didn't agree.

"As I said, there's more," he began.

Katrina nodded, placing her glass on the end table next to them and then settling back down beside him. He placed his glass beside her and mimicked her position on his side facing her.

"You know I have no family."

Katrina frowned and nodded. It had been such a sad situation for him growing up. Most of the foster homes he'd lived in only had him there for the extra money from the government. The only decent family he'd been placed in was the one where she'd had talked him into taking the dogs, and well, that didn't last long - because of her. When he was eighteen he began living on his own, working at the local gas station pumping gas in the evenings after school and on weekends for a few months before heading off to California.

He swallowed hard, making her even more curious as to what he was about to get at. It was unlike him to have such a hard time broaching a topic. He took a deep breath in and released it slowly.

"Well, after we had our talk by the fountain. You know, when you mentioned you were disappointed over how things have developed for you; that you'd wished that you had children and a husband by now..."

Katrina's body froze. It was beginning to sink in what he was getting at, even though he hadn't said the words yet.

"I don't want what I've worked so hard for to be for nothing Katrina."

God dammit! The tears began to fill in her eyes again. She wished she could control her emotions, at least until he got through what he wanted to say, but it was impossible. He was throwing so much at her, so fast. It was hard. He was preparing for the worst and she didn't want to think about the worst, not with Damon, not so soon after reconnecting.

He sighed. "I'm just going to say it. It isn't romantic like I'd envisioned, but..." He thrust an agitated hand through his hair. "I'd like you to consider marrying me and us having a child."

Her mouth dropped, her eyes widening in surprise. He was serious. He was really, really serious. She'd thought he was hinting towards it, or something of the sort, but to have him actually say it out load, made it real.

"I... Ummm."

He gave his head a shake and forced a smile onto his lips. "It was a crazy idea. I'm sorry I brought it up."

Marrying Damon? Having his baby? She'd thought about it when they were younger and over the years there were many times that she'd wondered 'what if.' Was it that crazy of an idea? She didn't know. The look of disappointment in his eyes tore at her.

"Aren't you scared that I'll take you to the cleaners? And what if it turns out okay, which I'm sure it will. Then you're stuck with a wife and a child in your life."

His eyes brightened and a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. He grazed his knuckles across her cheeks and he leaned down and ghosted his lips across hers. "You wouldn't. And I couldn't think of anything better than being stuck with you and our baby in my life."

She smiled and leaned into him, grazing her lips along the length of his neck. He groaned softly and her smile widened. A lifetime with Damon. It was crazy and it was so fast that it had her head spinning with emotions.

He pulled back from her, to look into her eyes. "I know this is quick and insane, but I may not have the luxury of time Kat. That's the reality of the situation even though I hate to think of it. I love you Kat, I always have. If you marry me and if we have a child, you have no idea what it would mean to me. My life would be complete."

As she looked into his dark eyes; the eyes of the only man she'd ever loved, she knew in her heart there was only one answer she could give.

"Yes," the words were uttered without any more thought, and it wasn't until his eyes lit up and a large smile emerged on his lips that she knew that she'd given him an answer. Her tears began to flow again, partly from the happiness of being with him again, of getting the thing she'd dreamed of over the years; a husband, a home, a baby. It was like a dream, but so bittersweet. She shook her head, as the tears continued to roll down her cheeks.

Damon stretched up and grabbed a couple tissues from the box on the end table. He gently wiped at her tears. "Hey, why are you crying?"

She sniffed and took the tissues from him. "Because, I'm happy and sad and... Oh God... It's so much. To lose you in a year, after finding you again..."

He pressed a finger to her lips. "It's not over yet honey. It's not. I'm going to fight this. I promise you. In the meantime, let's just enjoy our time together, whether it be a month, a year, or a lifetime. I promise work will never come before you again. Never."

Katrina threw herself at him, wrapped her arms around his neck and pushing him onto his back, with her straddling him. "Yes Damon. Yes, yes, yes!" She exclaimed running a trail of kisses up the side of his neck and then across his square jaw.

Laughing softly, Damon slid a hand to the back of her head, urging her lips to his, kissing her passionately. She gave in to him, moaning and running her hands over his shoulders. Her lips parted, inviting his tongue in as his cock began to rapidly expand between her legs and press against her stomach.

As their tongues danced, her entire body lit up with her desire for him. Her waiting and wanting him in combination to the mixture of intense emotions rushing through her was becoming overwhelming and she needed release from it all, and she knew the release came with the feel of his inside of her.

She pulled her lips from his, panting hard and pressed her forehead to his. They looked into each other's eyes, their breathing synchronizing. "If you make me wait another moment to make love to me I might just go insane Damon," she threatened, only partly joking.

In one, fast and fluid motion he flipped her over to her back and settled himself between her legs. She sighed. The feel of his body covering hers was divine and unlike earlier where the hard, cold tile pained her back, the soft fur of the rug was as comfortable as any bed.
